About the artist…

Born in the UK, as a young child I travelled overseas with my parents and was brought up in Nigeria, Australia and Kenya.

Watching elephant in the Aberdare National Park in Kenya

Above is a photograph taken in the Aberdare National Park in Kenya as we watched a herd of elephant crashing through the bush on the hill beyond. In the late 1970′s it was still possible to see large herds of elephant on our travel around Kenya. Below is a photograph of my folks and I at Mzima Springs in Tsavo West Game Park; note the hippo in the background!

Back in the 70's....my folx and I at Mzima Springs, Kenya.

I later worked as a registered nurse in Kenya and as a midwife in Saudi Arabia, South Africa and then back in the UK. Determined to combine my artwork with my medical background, with the support of my husband and three children I eventually returned to my studies and was awarded a B.A. (Hons) in Scientific and Natural History Illustration. I then went on to study on a post graduate Medical Art course with the Medical Artists Education Trust here in the UK.

Treasured memories of two of my best animal friends; a retired polo pony and an ex race horse…..

It is many years since I was privileged to own two wonderful horses…and how different could they be;  my retired polo pony had brakes and could turn on a sixpence and my race horse could only travel in a straight line at first…..!  These days I do not have the time to enjoy owning a horse (my art takes up all my time) but I meet lots of equines and their owners through my work as an artist and I would not give that up for anything.  It is an absolute joy to create a piece of artwork of a treasured animal.

I enjoy using my artwork to support the following equine charities:

  • Lancashire Retired Police Horse Benevolent Fund
  • World Horse Welfare (previously the ILPH)
